Taekwondo v.s Karate: Battle of the Titans
Taekwondo v.s Karate: Battle of the Titans
(Author's Note: This title may be misleading, but this blog post is actually about how TaeKwonDo is better than Karate, a thousand times through. Enjoy!
Did you know that approximately eight million people worldwide practice the disciplined art of TaeKwonDo? This population of sensible people includes a man named Richard Chun, who had remarked, "Your purpose in TaeKwonDo is not to fight, but to end the fight". Compare this to Karate, where 50% of the sport is to yell at people while kicking them as hard as you can to beckon foot pain/surgery. The point is, TaeKwonDo is better than Karate because it's safer, disciplines one further, and is genuinely more fun.
One reason TaeKwonDo is far superior to karate is because it is safer. "Safety first is safety always" a man named Charles M. Hayes had once written. In TaeKwonDo, the worst that can happen to someone is a blow to the head, muscle pain, or a bloody nose. In all contact sports, this is a day-to-day thing, and no real issues have been reported. However, in the gruesome sport of Karate, fracture and concussions are commonplace in some countries. Now, this is where some problems come in, and far more people have turned their back on Karate due to an injury than one in TaeKwonDo, more than ten thousand each year. This all ties back to my initial point-break;TaeKwonDo is better than karate.
Another element proving that TaeKwonDo kicks Karate's rear end is because of the discipline factor. In Karate, though instructors may teach you to kick, punch, and whoop another opponent, it doesn't teach you real discipline, just tolerance through a nose bleed. For this factor, it's not just but opinions and liking Karate, it's just that TaeKwonDo has a better chance of getting people somewhere. It is said that 30% of martial artists misuse their power, all because they aren't being disciplined. At the West Coast TaeKwonDo school in Tustin, California, every single class students have to directly call each other and instructors by their last names, and indirectly in the form of the word "sir"or "mam". When, students at West Coast TaeKwonDo exit that building, they learn something, they grow, and they rarely ever come out with more injuries then the average human has to endure on a day to day basis. Regarding Karate, according to the Dysfunctional Parrot, "TaeKwonDo is so monetarily(regarding money) ahead of Karate. It pushes a “family” mentality that makes for happy parents willing to fork over more cash".
Finally, TaeKwonDo has the lead in martial arts because it's genuinely a more enjoyable sport. Again, at West Coast TaeKwonDo California, students were all engaged in the sport, laughing, giggling, and taking part in stamina-building activities such as Jungle Gym or The Floor is Lava. At Karate, according to quora.com, most parents have great expectations of their kids at Karate. Most of these so called 'great' expectations include karate being a pastime for their kid to be disciplined and just get a black belt. Many kids enter TaeKwonDo knowing they would learn something and have fun doing it. For Karate, the attitude stands out as "God, when will I receive my black belt and finally be able to quit?".
Now, many people may counteract this logic, and put in that Karate is more popular than TaeKwonDo. This may be so, but a famous saying from Albert Einstein himself was "What is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right". Popularity can be wonderful, but efficiency is the best adversary for it, which once again, circles the idea that TaeKwonDo is better than Karate.
To wrap things up, TaeKwonDo is superior to Karate because it is more secure, builds higher character, and is typically more enjoyable. Let's hope the people of America can see this too.
